Personality: What can be said about Axel could be explained in many ways. However, first and foremost, he's heartless. Metaphysically, that is. He is what is called a nobody, and thus has no heart with which to feel emotion, or almost none, though exposure to the keyblade wielder allowed him to begin the process of regaining emotion, both by dint of being a keyblade wielder and because Roxas and Xion (the wielders in question) became his close friends. Axel was a master assassin and manipulator, exploiting his lack of heart to feel neither sympathy nor regret for his foes. However, he's mellowed out a little by his canon point. He's still a powerful fighter, but he's beginning to regret his earlier decisions and machinations, and endeavoring to make it up to Sora, the somebody of his best friend. He's forgotten Xion. Axel smiles easily, though he's always surprised when he catches himself laughing. He's a deeply sarcastic fellow, and uses this to mask his low self-worth. He's the kind of guy who will gladly sacrifice his own happiness - and life - for a friend's. He is temperamental and as changeable as the flames he commands, but loyal to those he considers deserving of it. He's deeply cynical, so to be worthy of his loyalty is a seldom-granted honor. While his friends know him as kind and gentle, if a bit vindictive, his enemies know him as frighteningly merciless and cruel, with no care for collateral damage and a tricky nature. Everyone knows him as loyal and dogged in his (unpredictable) pursuits. Axel is a talented enough actor that it's hard to predict what he'll do. Axel has difficulty with his returning emotions. Laughter and sorrow both surprise him easily. Anger and happiness, he tells himself, are a lie, a memory, nothing more. He cannot accept the reality of his own emotions, and it's leaving him unstable; for instance, he attacked Roxas rather than accept that being forgotten actually hurt in KH2. Axel's strengths include his ability to present a front, his talent at manipulation, his strength, his intelligence, and his loyal, friendly nature. However, his weaknesses include that he tends to wrap himself in layers of falsehood, his two-faced nature, his low self-esteem, his ability to be emotionally compromised by friends, and being overly loyal. Though Axel presents a fearless front, he does have one great fear: being forgotten. When Roxas forgot him he attacked him in an effort to jog his memory, though he did not pull his punches and could easily have killed his best friend. To forget Axel is to hurt him badly. In the Carnival, Axel's temperament did not improve, but did change somewhat. He's a bit calmer, but also more manipulative. He's still got an easy smile, maybe not as quick to spring as it used to be, but it's more genuine now. He's beginning to accept that maybe he has emotions a little bit, though he blames fae magic. He's still a determined and loyal individual, albeit one who is more than willing to act on his own judgement. He's a little more settled about being forgotten and abandoned. Abilities: - Teleportation via Dark Corridors (Holes of wispy darkness, in canon between locations or worlds through the outside of the worlds, but in game only between locations, which can be opened ahead of someone for multiple people to pass through or around the caster for nigh-instantaneous teleportation; using them risks corruption of the heart from darkness, Axel does it anyway because he has no heart, or so he believes) - Fire creation and manipulation (He is bound to fire as some are to light or darkness, and thus has power to work with it. These include the ability to create small arenas where the floor is literally lava and the walls are fire, be nearly fireproof due to ability to part flames, and manipulate flames as and on a weapon, but he loses control if the fire is too big, and has some fine control but the fire behaves unpredictability if he loses focus) - Magic (Basic FF/KH style magic. He's not very good at it, but can cast spells like fire, fira, cure, cura... etc.) - Hammerspace Chakrams (Can summon a pair of large spiked chakrams and control them like a pro, especially if they're wreathed in fire.) CARNIVAL↴ Soul Colour: Burnt Sienna Ideal Jobs: Mercenary Relevant Experience: Axel is a master assassin (master of the assassin nobodies, in fact) as well as an expert in reconnaissance in canon. He has experience as a spy, and demonstrated his infiltration expertise throughout KH:CoM alongside his ability to make judgement calls about what's right and wrong while still following orders. He's capable of snap decisions and extremely loyal to any group that he has a reason to be loyal to. He's got the advantage of having no real emotions (or so he would claim), too, which allows him to work without distraction or sympathy when needed. Carnival History: Axel spent a year and a half in the carnival serving as a mercenary before the vampires attacked. He signed on originally after breaking a mirror in the house of mirrors, and extended his contract in order to free his friends from Organization XIII. He's generally pretty chill about being in the carnival, though did freak out a little when he first started growing horns. He was granted a short leave to recover after being injured in the vampire attack, which was for him a few weeks and for the carnival several months; he was called in again after the vampires got their revenge. Existing Contract: First Contract was to make up for breaking a mirror in the house of mirrors. Details: In exchange for completing this contract, his hammerspace chakrams were returned to him. Existing Contract: Currently under contract in order to free his friends from Organization XII. Though Xion and Roxas got out in their own ways, he's still working to get Saïx out. Details: In exchange for completing this contract, Axel expected to return home to Xion, Roxas, and Saïx's freedom. However, Roxas left the Organization on his own after being forced to kill Xion, which was her "freedom," and was re-absorbed by Sora, so now he's working for Saïx's freedom. Current Changes: Common: Horns, pointed ears, glowing eyes, shark teeth, claws, fae marks Uncommon: Antelope legs, lizard tail (note: his blood is black and sparkly. It was already like that when he got here, though.) Rare: Breathes fire and smoke when frustrated Mental: A preference for natural places, a tendency towards even more manipulative behaviors SAMPLES↴ Sample 1 Axel's frustrated. It's obvious from the way his breath contains smoke and sparks. If he doesn't calm down soon, he'll set something on fire. But he's got a good reason for it, at least. How dare she. How could she do that to him? He worked long and hard, he even got injured fighting gor her, and then she frees his friends like that?! He can barely remember anything about one of them now, except that her death triggered Roxas's leaving, and now Roxas is gone too. Saïx is still a puppet of Xemnas, and that's the only reason he's got to stick around, but for now? He's angry. Of course, the problem with having a bone to pick with one of the fae is that they're flighty on a good day. He hasn't been able to track the Ringmaster down at all. She's not even by the beer pong table she apparently loves so dearly. But Axel is, and he's nursing something a little stronger than beer as he (both literally and figuratively) fumes. At least it helps him simmer down, if only because he doesn't want to burn down the midway by combining booze and his fiery breath. He turns to his drinking companion and speaks, still remarkably sober despite his slim frame. "You know, I probably wouldn't have done it any different. That's part of what's pissing me off.
